West Coast 2 - An Intimate Journey - A West Coast Adventure with Paint and Pen
For three decades I spent my summers messing about in boats. Each July my husband Chris and I headed up the coast and around the outer islands, boat camping on our 22 foot, “Northern Freedom”. We explored remote areas only dreamed of in their uniqueness and beauty.
When the curator of the Museum of Northern B.C. asked if I would be interested in putting together a show about the west coast, wild horses could not hold me back. My challenge was to turn an exploration of special places into an exploration of the art of painting, and to see how much fun I could have in the process. I pushed myself by using big brushes, new techniques, and new colours. I wanted these paintings to be loose and fresh.
This show has been a delightful trip for me. I ran out of time long before I ran out of inspiration. I thought it would be a show about boats. I now realize it is a show about intimacy. In a landscape as huge as the Pacific Ocean, it is the precious small beauties and points of connection that make my heart sing.
